Laura Tabor-Huerta was a regular fixture on the Dallas-Fort Worth punk rock and new wave underground scene back in the 80s and 90s. She spent a decade documenting the bands, the musicians, the fans and the “scene” on video. Saturday night, Laura’s documentary, DFW Punk, screens at 1919 Hemphill in Fort Worth. It’s a safe bet that you’ll find some of those punk rock stars in attendance, which will make for a really interesting Q&A after the screening.
Speaking of Q&A’s, we caught up with Laura via e-mail recently to chat with her about the film, the idea behind it and more, as part of this week’s Art&Seek Q&A:

“Break Apart” by Anna Thomas
The first song I ever heard by singer-songwriter Anna Thomas, “Break Apart,” was written and recorded when she was twelve. She wrote it and performed it–at the age of twelve. She has the voice of a seasoned professional, and her lyrics are rich in story lines and much more mature than [...]

I have to say, my evening with Allan Hayslip was one of the most interesting, entertaining and frightening that I’ve experienced in some time. Interesting and entertaining because that’s Allan, he’s a witty, clever and fun guy. Frightening because he managed to get me on a 20-ft. lift–me–one who is so terrified of [...]

Jill Allison Bryan has been a favorite on the local music scene since the 90’s. She met her singer-songwriter husband, Doug Bryan, while performing with him in the award-winning band, Big Boss Groove. Together they built a gorgeous Mediterranean-style home near White Rock Lake, where they are raising their beautiful daughter Riley. [...]

I found Patrick Short, curator and founder of GuerillaArts in Dallas, delightfully intoxicating. His energy, passion and enthusiasm for the local arts community left me with no need for a libation. However, I somewhat digress. Expect more about Patrick (video) and his fascinating project in the coming weeks.
This past Friday evening I [...]

The Kessler Theater was nothing short of gorgeously pristine for last night’s opening. The lobby bar was sleek and inviting, the main room, while large, still felt warm and intimate and the sound system was top-notch. It was the perfect setting for the re-opening of this landmark theater. The crowd was an [...]

Kessler Theater Tour
It’s finally here. The Kessler Theater is all fresh, shiny and ready to throw open its doors, with a total renovation and a few months’ worth of splendid shows and events already on the books. If you didn’t get a chance to see the place post-renovations, you can get somewhat of [...]

Art&Seek spent the day in Fort Worth at the Will Rogers Memorial Center for this year’s Funky Finds Spring Fling, and it was a huge success! It was funky, there were finds and fun was had by all.
We caught up with Funky Finds’ founder, Jessica Dougherty, who shed a little more light on the [...]

The Recording Academy (aka The Grammys) Texas Chapter Board of Governors threw out the first mixer at this year’s NX35 Conferette. The party was held at Dan’s Silverleaf to a standing room only crowd of movers and shakers in the industry, along with musicians, producers and fans.
Art&Seek took a few moments to speak [...]

Letitia Huckaby’s artwork and photography will be on display beginning Saturday night at her opening exhibition at the South Dallas Cultural Center. Her work on the LA 19 (Daughters of God) evoked so much emotion and passion within me, that I knew that I had to meet this incredible artist and learn more about [...]
