You’re Invited: ‘Glory Denied': Coming Home From Modern Conflict

Col. Jim Thompson was the longest-held captive of the Vietnam War.

His courageous and heart-breaking story inspired a book and an opera, Glory Denied, which will be performed during Fort Worth Opera Festival this spring.  But it’s just one soldier’s story.

On Nov. 5, in honor of Veterans Day, Fort Worth Opera, Tarrant County College and KERA’s Art&Seek present an evening of conversation comparing the challenges facing today’s veterans with those of the Vietnam War. How has the homecoming experience changed since Vietnam? How can that experience be translated into art that reflects the journey of every man and woman returning from war?

I hope you’ll join us – and invite the vets in your life – when KERA’s Jerome Weeks explores these questions and more during an evening of compelling discussion with Glory Denied author Tom Philpott, composer Tom Cipullo and veteran and TCC professor Charles Overstreet. The event is free, but please register to save your seat.
